Taihu Lake Sees Flocks of Migratory Birds As Ecology Improve

A flock of tundra swans came over to Suzhou from the north and joined local residents for the beautiful autumn scenery together. The tundra swan, first recorded on November 12, is a second-level state-protected animal in China.

Professionals say that swans normally perch near lakes and marshes in flocks. The water quality and environment of Taihu Lake have improved a lot since the removal of aquaculture enclosures. And that’s probably what attracts swans and other migrating birds to Suzhou.

Apart from tundra swans, more “guests” came in flocks!

Up to 191 species of birds have been recorded at Taihu Hubin National Wetland Park so far. The fact that more and more migrating birds choose Suzhou as their stopover shows the city’s ecological environment is becoming more appealing to wildlife.

Local authorities have taken a series of long-term management measures, aiming to improve the environment and provide high-quality habitat for the birds coming from afar.
